The Marathon Peace March began, as a protest event demanding World Peace and Disarmament, in 1963 with its leader Grigoris Lambrakis The march started from Marathon and ended 42 kilometers away, in the center of Athens.
It is May 23, 1965 and the filmmaker is in the square of Saint Paraskevi -we also see the church- and he records the protesters, who have already walked over 30 kilometers, marching towards Athens. The huge crowd, of various ages, approaches holding dozens of placards with the Peace sign, banners with anti-war slogans. Traffic police officers as well as policemen are everywhere.
We can see banners that say "Peace - Cyprus Union", “The weapons in the museums", "No to war", "Peace in the world", “Stop the war - Self-determination in Cyprus", "Peace means a glass of milk and a book in front of every child", "The hands of the USA are dripping with blood" etc. we see an impressive chariot with “Peace” that projects from the globe, holding a dove, one more with the motto "Bombs and missiles at sea", another one "General and complete Disarmament" etc.
Speeches by members of the organizers follow, among them we can stand out the former parliament member of the EDA (United Democratic Left).
