Description
We are in Hanover, the capital and largest city of the German State of Lower Saxony, Germany.
The film opens with the facade of the Central Hotel Kaiserhof, a bus of that era has stopped at the bus stop and we can see on the left side the Kaufhof shopping centre (today Galeria). The film continues with shots of the buses, one of which has the Miele company trademark on its side. The camera stands for a while on the building that houses the insurance company Erste Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG and then the filmmaker shows us the city’s center, the traffic on the streets with the road signs and the cars of that era, passers-by who come and go to their jobs and the city’s building infrastructure.
The camera focuses briefly on the kiosks with the magazines and the newspapers and stops at the Anzeiger-Hochhaus building which was built in 1928 by the publisher August Madsack. It housed the "Hannoverschen Anzeiger" publishing and printing house and the city’s planetarium was once below the 17-meters-high dome. The 51-meter-high building with its characteristic expressionist-style façade is unique to German skyscrapers with its dome attached to a green copper-plated cladding. Afterwards, we see buses of that era at the bus stop as well as the people.
The film closes with footage from the filmmaker’s route while he’s on the move with the dome of the new town hall’s building standing out as its exterior looks like an ancient castle.
