The film is shot in Varanasi, also known as Benares, a city of two million inhabitants, built on the west bank of the Ganges River, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, India.
The film opens with shots of the Ganges River and a crowd of people performing their holy bathing and praying. As the boat moves along, the filmmaker captures the sacred buildings with stares leading down to the river, known as "Ghats". We stand out the Rana Mahal Ghat and the Manikarnika Ghat, one of the holiest cremation grounds among the shrines on the banks of the river.
The film closes with the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most important Hindu temples in India and one of the 12 temples where Shiva is believed to have appeared as a pillar of light.
