The first shot of the film reveals the place we are in, Kandanos, Chania, Crete.
We see a marble inscription that is engraved first in German and then in Greek that says: ”Here was Kandanos. It was destroyed for the retaliation for the murder of 25 German soldiers". This memorial in the center of the town refers to its destruction by the Germans, on June 3, 1941, in retaliation for the armed resistance that the inhabitants showed during the Battle of Crete, in World War II.
Afterwards, we see a peaceful scene on a road with an elderly man who rides his donkey and one more man following on foot. The village’s square, the necessary restaurant and other shops, a large group of men under a huge plane tree.
The filmmaker's journey to Crete continues, a stop with the car for the filmmaker’s family to enjoy the view with the White Mountains around.
Men gather chairs in a shady spot with trees, a man smokes a hookah in a cafe where he sits and talks with the filmmaker’s company.
At the end, they say goodbye with handshakes and the excursionists continue their journey.
