Mystras, also known as Myzithras in the Chronicle of Morea, was a fortified city and former municipality (Municipality of Mystras) in Laconia, Peloponnese Region, Greece.
The film opens with a car of that era that passes in front of the camera as it crosses the Taygetos Mountain, the highest mountain range in the Peloponnese. We see through the moving car a sign which says that Mystras is straight ahead, and after that a crowd of people who heads inside the castle city.
The filmmaker shows us a panoramic shot of the building complex of Mystras. The camera stands on the Frankish castle that stands out in the background. One more view of the castle walls and the entire area of the complex, with its stone alleys, forts, churches, monasteries and palaces.
The film closes with the bell tower of the Pantanassa church and people visiting it.
It is worth mentioning that Mystras was built in 1249 by Guillaume de Villehardouin. The castle is dominated by 7 important churches: Saint Dimitrios (Diocese) in the courtyard of which is the Metropolitan Palace, today the Museum of Mystras, Evangelistria, Saints Theodoroi, Panagia ( Virgin Mary) Odigitria, Santa Sofia, which was located from the palaces and probably constituted the church of the Palaces, Perivleptos and Pantanassa (nunnery), whose church is the best preserved monument.
