We are in Delphi, an ancient Greek city in which the most important oracle of the ancient Greek world operated.
We watch from a distance the Tholos, which dominates the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia. A woman smiles and greets the lens while the people behind her continue their tour. The camera follows her for a while and then shows us the ancient stadium. The visitors explore the area and at some point sit down to take a breath. The camera shows us the ancient theater, which is the largest building of the Apollonian Sanctuary and an integral part of it, directly connected with the myths and the worship of the god.
Afterwards, we see the oracle and the temple of Apollo. The temple was considered the residence of the god Apollo, the seat of the oracle and one of the most important monuments of Delphi which was located in a prominent and central position inside the sanctuary. Worship-related rituals were performed in the temple, the most important of which was the divination process.
The filmmaker continues his tour with the Treasury of the Athenians, a building in the form of a small temple. It was constructed by the Athenians to house dedications and votive offerings made by their city and citizens to the sanctuary of Apollo for their victory against the Persians. It is located at the first turn of the Sacred Way, which led to the temple of Apollo and the oracle of Delphi. The building is Doric in style, made of Parian marble. The film closes with footage from the archaeological site and the Sacred Way.
Since 1972 the archaeological site of Delphi is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
