We are in Madurodam, a miniature park and tourist attraction in the Scheveningen district of The Hague in the Netherlands. It is home to a range of 1:25 scale model replicas of famous Dutch landmarks, historical cities and large developments. The park was opened in 1952 and has since been visited by tens of millions of visitors. The entirety of net proceeds from the park go towards various charities in the Netherlands.
The film opens with a representation of the Binnenhof on Prinsjesdag (a day on which the reigning monarch of the Netherlands addresses a joint session of the States-General of the Netherlands), a complex of buildings in the city center of The Hague, next to the Hofvijver lake.
We see families with children admiring the park’s sights with the famous Dutch windmills and then the lens shows us a carousel. The filmmaker shows us the Peace Palace and the Port of Rotterdam while his attention is briefly focused towards a little boy. Shots of the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, a train and a highway follow as visitors admire the exhibits.
The film closes with people exploring the park as well as the elaborate train models that are in motion.
