The eternal flame burns unquenchable in the center of the monument. As we watch the flame, the voice of our filmmaker reminds us of the tragic events that took place between 1915 and 1919. 1,5 million of Armenians, victims of the massacre of the -then- newly established Turkish state. The voice goes on to say that the Armenians will never forgive the Turks for this tragedy. We leave the center of the monument through the stairs that are leading to stone slabs. These stone slabs are placed in circle and symbolise the 12 provinces where the Armenians were slaughtered and expelled and now belong to Turkey.
We watch the 44-meter-high column that symbolises the Armenian rebirth. The designers and architects of the monument are A. Tarhanian and S. Kalassian.
Every year on April 24, thousands of Armenians and foreign visitors lay wreaths at the monument's unquenchable flame as a tribute to 1.5 million victims.
