Moving on the provincial road network, we see views of the natural landscape of the area.
At a crossroads a sign informs us of the mileage of several destinations. We are only 18 km away from the Turkish border and only 39 km away from Soufli which is our destination. The cinematographer continues with views of the flora of the area alongside the road and then views through the main street of Soufli.
We watch the traditional two-storied, stone houses with their closed balconies structures. We stand for a while in a town’s traditional coffee house and in a shop that sells textiles embroidered with silkworms’ cocoons.
In Soufli, silk flourished until the mid-1980s when the synthetic silk led to the decline of sericulture.
The film closes with footage of a group of friends who walk down the street and we see that all women wearing headscarves.
